The inspired duo who met at design school in Holland took their ambition and boundary pushing design to Paris on graduation in the late 90’s. Today they continue to grace the progressive periphery of design and couture in a sometimes stifled creative climate.
They draw on raw emotions, are committed to total authenticity, never bending to the sometimes oppressive whims of the fashion industry.
Their work ranges from the wearable to the purely conceptual. Gowns of deconstructed portraiture, piles of tulle and woven rag, to tailored suiting with the word ‘NO’ painstakingly sewn in 3 dimensionally in tweed to express their antagonism at the relentlessness of the International fashion cycle.
‘Viktor and Rolf - Fashion Artists’ is currently on at the NGV in Melbourne. A spectacular Art meets Fashion display spanning the decades of unbridled creativity and output. See David Hockney while you are there! There is a great kids space with gif making portraiture booth and paper couture activities (see below).
